Tell a lie often enough…

From today’s Guardian, Peter Wilby on anti-Chavez propaganda in the British press.

“(Chavez has) cut poverty and illiteracy, expanded free healthcare,
and raised pensions. He has also tried to break US hegemony over Latin
America and he opposes “free trade” agreements that would allow US
corporations to control large sectors of the Venezuelan economy. With
such disreputable views, Chávez can never be allowed an outing
in the British media unless he is shepherded by adjectives. President
Bush is simply President Bush. But Chávez is “controversial”,
“maverick”, “demagogic”, “populist” (but not “popular”), “overbearing”
and “authoritarian”.”
