Classy, MGM, real classy

June 3, 2008

Cutting twenty minutes out of a classic film without giving any warning on the cover? All in a day’s work for the people who tell you not to download their movies.

  1. What could possibly be the point? It’s a DVD for chrissake! We could give them the benefit and call it a technical glitch.

  2. Edwin Sherin would be rolling in his grave, were he dead. They’d never be let do this (by whom? the public? Hah!) to a Peckinpah or a Leone… methinks the director etc. could be in on it or as likely have no remaining rights over their collective creation.

The Amazon reviews are pretty ‘cutting’ :)

I’m waiting for the Godfather to be re-released as sub 140 minute action flick.

  3. When Bob Dylan’s “Blonde On Blonde” was origally released on CD, the epic song “Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands” which took up one whole side on the double LP was cut in half, not even faded out, just cut in the middle to save CBS pressing a second disc! I don’t know but assume it has been released in it’s entirety since.

  4. Typical of the widespread degradation of the western. We can get eight disc box sets of some modern crap but the classics are treated with utter disdain.
